We all know that links are one of the most important ranking factors of search engines. Search engines like Google count links as a vote to the site. Google PageRank (PR) is being used as an indicator of individual page’s value. Site with more back links are considered more valuable then the site with no PR or less PR.

Webmasters always try to get links from high PR pages; in fact many of them are spending heavily to get high PR links.

But does this PageRank is the right tool to measure the actual value of the site?

Google update the Page Rank once in several months (There is no defined time for this update), so it (PR tool) will not display the true value of the sites which has got good number of links during this interval.

PageRank only measures the absolute importance of a page, but doesn’t tell us how much Google trusts a page. Search engines internally label pages as SPAM or not SPAM. Pages labeled as SPAM are not trusted and their links might carry negative weight.

So I believe it is always better to have link from relevant, theme based & trusted sites even if it is of low PR.

What factors should be considered for Link Building?

We should take care of the following factors:

  • Link page should be recently crawled or cache by the Google and other search engines. If a page is not indexed by search engines then there is no mean to take the back link from that page.
  • Link should not have Nofollow Tag as it will not allow the page to pass its PR & Google will not consider it as a vote for your site.
  • Link should be from theme based sites it will also help you to get more visits.
  • Link page should not have many outgoing links as it will dilute the PR benefit to the linked site. It is like same as if we distribute one cake to 10 people rather then 5 & it will automatically decrease the quantity for each person.
  • To get more traffic, it is better to take the link from high traffic sites.
  • Link should not from frame sites as Google can not read the content within the frames.
  • We should also check the IP add of the link page. Links from the same IP page can create the negative impression in Search Engines.
  • Links from trusted domain always have more value..
  • Always focus to get good one way links as reciprocal links don’t create much value for the site. High quality & unique content is the best way to get quality one way link.
  • Don’t do aggressive link building for your site like purchasing too many links as you might be trapped into spamming.

Getting the links is not the only thing but to get the quality link is more important. Always remember High Quality & Unique Content is the only way to get the quality one way link. It will help to get the one way links automatically without any extra efforts.

  2. Hi Aurelius,

    Thanks for appreciation.

  3. A new concept for quality backlinking has opened in January 2008 and is in a closed Beta phase at the moment.

You submit any kind of ‘intel’ e.g. articles and any interesting trivia you can think of which is rated and rewarded with backlinks and traffic.

Qassia has come up with a incentive for participation called the Qassia Dollars.

You can earn Qassia dollars through referrals, your intels, and screening other users’ intels. Better ratings and longer entries earn you more Qassia dollars, and you earn more for screening if your rating matches the majority opinion, or if you rate first.

During Beta testing, Qassia dollar rewards will be boosted to encourage participation; until the site is fully open to the public.

Qassia also pays you 100% for Google ads on your member and intel pages.
If you want to give this free opportunity of Qassia.com a go, you can get a closed invitation through my membership page at:

  4. Hi, thank you for a great post. These are good tips for link building process. The only thing I don’t agree is that we should only focus on the “DoFollow” websites. If one tries to get incoming link from the “DoFollow” sites only, it may be considered as an artificial link building tactic and we know that the search engines like naturally built links. In addition, links from the “NoFollow” sites can drive some traffic to the website although they don’t give the PR and are not counted as a vote for the website.
